What data does this API return?

Accepted Answer

Only data that is already public: what a platform shows to anyone who visits a profile, or what the owner chose to publish. Private data is never accessed and nothing is scanned.

What happens if the account doesn't exist?

You get a normal 200 response with exists: false (or the endpoint's equivalent, such as businessProfile: false or hasGravatar: false), so you can tell "not found" apart from an error.

Are failed requests billed?

No. Responses with a 5xx status, for example when an upstream source is down, are never billed.

Question 4

Can I look up by link instead of username?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Most endpoints accept a handle with or without the @, or a full profile link, which is reduced to the handle automatically.
